Periodontal Maintenance

Patients with a history of periodontal disease are at a higher risk for future periodontal disease and tooth loss. Additionally, there are certain risk factors and indicators that increases ones risk of having gum dum disease such as smoking, diabetes, poor oral hygiene and genetic factors. It is therefore important for patients with periodontal disease, a family history of periodontal disease or any of the above risk factors to have an evaluation by a periodontist to determine the appropriate periodontal maintenance intervals as each person varies. Additionally, it allows your periodontist and hygienist to discover any signs of recurrence of periodontal disease before it becomes severe and allows for more predictable and successful treatment.
